Indonesia responds to Vanuatu human rights allegations

The Government of Indonesia emphasized that Vanuatu is not a representative of the people of Papua, responding to allegations of human rights violations that the Pacific country has brought against Indonesia, Antara reports. You are not a representative of the people of Papua and will stop fantasizing about being one of them, said the diplomat representing Indonesia Silvani Austin Pasariba. At the UN, Sylvani Austin Pasaribu said Vanuatu is overly and unhealthily obsessed with how Indonesia should act or govern its country. The reason is that almost every year at the UN General Assembly, Vanuatu touches on the issue of alleged human rights violations faced by Papua. Indonesia will defend itself against any propaganda of separatism that is presented under the guise of artificial concern about human rights, the diplomat noted, stressing that since 1945 Papua and West Papua have been part of Indonesia, which is a final and irreversible solution. In his response, the Indonesian diplomat wondered how the State of Vanuatu, which had not ratified the international conventions on the elimination of racial discrimination and had not signed international treaties on economic, social and cultural rights, was actually lecturing Indonesia on human rights in Papua. We call upon the Government of Vanuatu to fulfil its human rights obligations to its people and the world. So please keep your sermon to yourself, Silvani Austin told Pasarib. Earlier, Vanuatu Prime Minister Bob Laughman accused Indonesia of violating human rights in Papua. According to him, allegations of human rights violations in Papua are of particular concern to Pacific countries, which called on Indonesia to allow representatives of the UN Human Rights Council to visit Papua.
